Description
This qualification is part of the Textiles, Clothing and Footwear training package. It is designed for people who want to learn and develop the creative, technical and theoretical skills needed to work in a workroom or studio as a milliner. Students may learn about different areas of millinery, including: millinery design and development processes such as identifying and selecting appropriate materials, making felt for millinery, using skin, fur or leather for millinery, flat patternmaking, millinery sewing and adhesion techniques; millinery production processes such as placing and cutting patterns, using millinery pressing, steaming equipment, hand blocking and shaping techniques, making stitched and blocked millinery, blocking and shaping complex millinery shapes; making and applying millinery trims, making couture millinery; consulting with and fitting clients; managing the millinery supply chain.

Follow defined OH&S policies and procedures; Apply quality standards; Work in the Textiles, Clothing and Footwear industry; Identify materials used in millinery; Make flat patterns for millinery; Block and shape millinery by hand; Assemble simple blocked millinery components; Make flat patterns from hat blocks; Block and shape complex millinery; Make millinery using a pattern derived from a hat block; Identify performance and handling requirements of millinery materials; plus electives.

Entry Requirements
Headwear/Millinery Certificate III or equivalent with specific unit requirements.
