Certificate IV in Disability

Course Code: CHC40308
Duration: 3-6 Months

Certificate IV in Disability work can be studied online/correspondence. Depending on how fast you submit your assignments this course takes about 3-6 months. There are no exams, only assignments meant to assess how well you understood the module. At the end of class work there is work placement for about 150 hours and we arrange this for you. The fee for Online learning is $2500. Online study is self-paced and therefore you determine the speed of study by how frequently you submit your assignments. All the resources you need to complete the course are online including support via Live Classes held periodically. Other support in addition to coursework material include: email, phone and normal chat. 
The Certificate you get at the end of the course is nationally accredited.

This course is designed for people who are working, or intend to work, in the disability field. Disability includes intellectual, physical, sensory and multiple disabilities.
The course provides the skills and knowledge to work in:
•	Community and Adult Day Services
•	Employment Services
•	Residential Services
•	Outreach Services; and
•	Individualised Services
Additionally, workers in this occupational category work in residential group homes, training resource centres, day respite centres and open employment services, other community settings and clients' homes. 
Assessment
Assessment is based on competency, which is the ability to demonstrate specific skills, and a combination of observation, discussion, written assignments, tests, and/or practical application and work related projects. On-the-job assessment may be undertaken either in the workplace or a simulated workplace environment.

Graduates of this course can explore a range of diverse and interesting roles, including:

•	Disability Services Officer with the Department of Human Services
•	Integration aide in education settings
•	Support worker in Employment Services
•	Home Carer focusing on people with disabilities
•	Attendant Carer providing respite care or personal care to people with disabilities
•	Community Outreach Worker
•	Client Service Worker in Day and Adult Services
•	Individualised Support Worker; and
•	Advocate

Workers in this group may work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a limited number of lower classified workers.
Workplace Assessment

Workplace training gives students the opportunity to develop practical job skills, such as interacting with people in a professional environment, developing communication skills, as well as an insight into particular job roles and responsibilities. Overall, students have found workplace training enhanced their chances of getting a job and succeeding at it.
Following placement, all students are required to provide a signed Pre-Assessment Interview form, Workplace Assessment form, Record of Outcome form and also the Workplace Agreement form to verify they have successfully demonstrated the practical components of each of the required competency outcomes. A qualified manager/supervisor must sign the forms as validation.
Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer
Students may be able to shorten the length of their chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQTF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Job Training Institute.
