COURSE INFORMATION

CHC30708 Certificate III in Children’s Services is the national qualification for child care workers and will suit those wishing to work with children or already involved in child care. 

This qualification covers workers who use organisational policies, procedures and individual children’s profiles to plan activities and provide care to children, facilitating their leisure and play and enabling them to achieve their developmental outcomes. Depending on the setting, workers may work under direct supervision or autonomously.

Delivery
This program will be delivered in a blended format which combines face to face, online and /or correspondence.
Every enrolled student will have access to:
•	Our online learning environment which will contain all the learning materials and some of the written assessments.
•	The learning materials are given either in hard copy or soft copy (CD)
•	Every face to face class.
As the qualification is being delivered in a blended format, it is expected that class sizes and constitutions will change from session to session.
As part of the course, students will be required to undertake vocational placement of 150 hours in a child care centre. A qualified Learner Centre assessor will visit the centres regularly – at least once a week – to read the third party reports from supervisor’s and assess the students in the work place.

Job Training Institute will assist those students who cannot get placements for themselves. 

Assessment Strategies
Units of competency contain a variety of assessment methods. These assessments will include: 
•	Observation in a simulated environment
•	Observation during vocational placement
•	Case studies
•	Oral/Written Examination

Course duration
This will be delivered in 15 weeks at the rate of one 4 hours class per week. Once you competently complete about 10 units, you will embark on the task of arranging work placement for you.

3. Payment of enrolment fee is required prior to commencement

Qualification Requirements
To achieve a Certificate in Children’s Services a total of (15) units of competency must be completed and assessed as competent by JTI. Work placement is a core component of the course and therefore a unit cannot be completed before the work place component has been done.

This course comprises:
11 compulsory units and 4 electives

CHCCHILD401A - Identify and respond to children and young people at risk
CHCCN301A - Ensure the health and safety of children
CHCCN302A - Provide care for children
CHCCN303A - Contribute to provision of nutritionally balanced food in a safe and hygienic manner
CHCCS400A - Work within a relevant legal and ethical framework
CHCFC301A - Support the development of children
CHCIC301D - Interact effectively with children
CHCPR301A - Provide experiences to support children’s play and learning
CHCPR303D - Develop understanding of children’s interests and developmental needs
HLTFA301B - Apply first aid
HLTOHS300A - Contribute to OHS processes

Elective units
CHCORG303A - Participate effectively in the work environment
CHCRF301D - Work effectively with families to care for the child
HLTHIR403B - Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers
CHCCN305A - Provide care for babies
